Z359 fall protection code: 2024 and 2026 updates
ASSP's Fall Protection Code has new editions: ANSI/ASSP Z359.1-2024, which replaced the 2020 edition and ties the code together, and Z359.6-2026 on designing active fall protection systems, which replaced the 2016 edition.

Not yet: the exam still tests the prior rule
Exam fall protection questions rest on OSHA's rules (1926.502, 1910.140) and older references. The new Z359 editions don't change what those rules require.
Judged against ASP11, CSP11 and CHST5, the outlines in effect on October 16, 2026.

What's new
- Z359.1-2024, The Fall Protection Code. Covers program management, system design, training, qualification and testing, and equipment specifications, and sets out how the other Z359 standards fit together. It replaced Z359.1-2020.
- Z359.6-2026, Specifications and Design Requirements for Active Fall Protection Systems. For qualified persons who design complete systems: travel restraint, fall arrest, positioning, rope descent and rescue. It replaced Z359.6-2016.
ANSI also lists Z359.2-2023 (managed fall protection programs) and Z359.15-2024 (single anchor lifelines and fall arresters) as current.
For the exam
Study OSHA's numbers: anchorages, free fall distance, arresting force and clearance. Our fall clearance questions compute them in code from the rule.
