FAQ

Which exam should I take first?

If you meet the CSP requirements, including a BCSP Qualified Credential, you can go straight to the CSP. If you don't hold one, start with the ASP: it needs a bachelor's degree (or a qualifying associate) and 1 year of experience, and passing it gives you the qualified credential the CSP requires. The CHST has no degree requirement and needs 3 years of construction safety experience.

Can I take the CSP without the ASP?

You need a BCSP Qualified Credential. The ASP is the usual one, but BCSP's list also includes the GSP, TSP, CIH, CRSP, NEBOSH National or International Diploma, CMIOSH/CFIOSH and others. You also need a bachelor's degree and 4 years of qualifying experience.

Do I need a degree for the CHST?

No. BCSP's CHST requirement is three years of construction safety experience where at least 35% of the job duties required safety, health and environment technical skills, plus passing the exam.

Does an associate degree qualify for the ASP?

Only an associate in safety, health or the environment, and it must include at least four courses with at least 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) in the domains covered by the ASP blueprint. A bachelor's in any field also qualifies.

How long do I have after approval?

BCSP gives you one year from application approval to take and pass the exam, and retakes must be at least six weeks after your last attempt.
