ASP, CSP and CHST pass rates, 2024

BCSP's own 2024 numbers for the ASP, CSP and CHST: how many people sat each exam, how many passed, and the pass rate.

Published October 16, 2026. Facts checked against the sources listed below.

BCSP publishes candidate counts and pass rates for each exam in its annual report. These are the 2024 figures, copied from page 9 of the report. The reporting periods end September 30, 2024.

ExamCandidatesPassedPass rate
ASP2,6412,13480.8%
CSP3,1202,11767.9%
CHST2,5781,59361.8%

What the numbers say

  • About 8,300 people sat one of these three exams in the 2024 reporting periods (2,641 + 3,120 + 2,578 = 8,339).
  • The CHST had the lowest pass rate of the three, at 61.8%.
  • The CSP had the most candidates. About one in three did not pass.

Candidates are not credential holders

You may see much larger numbers quoted for these exams, such as 25,290 for the CSP. Those come from a different table in the same report: credentials held as of December 31, 2024 (CSP 25,290, CHST 12,008, ASP 8,406). That counts everyone who currently holds the credential, not how many people took the exam in a year.

What this means for your study plan

A pass rate describes everyone who sat the exam, not you. A more useful number is how you score in each blueprint domain, because the exam weights them differently. For example, two ASP domains (Safety Programs and Concepts at 25%, and Fire Prevention and Protection at 12%) make up over a third of the exam.

PassCited does not publish a pass rate of its own. The figures above are BCSP's.
