ASP question for October 24, 2026

The ASP question of the day for Saturday, October 24, 2026, on ergonomics and MSD prevention (OSHA guidelines). Pick an answer to see the explanation and its source.

ASP Domain 3: Ergonomics

A nursing assistant tells her supervisor that her shoulders ache after each shift but she has not reported it because "it's not a real injury yet." The facility is updating its employee training. Which training point from OSHA's nursing home guidelines best addresses her attitude?

Show answer and source: OSHA 3182, Guidelines for Nursing Homes: Ergonomics for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders (2009), PDF p. 33

Answer: A. Training should cover how to recognize MSDs and their early signs, and the advantages of addressing early signs before serious injury develops

OSHA's nursing home guidelines say employee training should cover recognizing MSDs and early indications, the advantages of addressing them before serious injury, and the facility's reporting procedures. Delaying action until injury is serious defeats early action. Reporting procedures are not limited to lost-workday cases, and they follow 29 CFR 1904, not another regulation.

On the job

A laundry supervisor at a nursing home hears a laundry aide say the aching in his forearms is nothing to report because he can still finish every shift. The safety coordinator uses that comment to revise the next training session. It now covers how to recognize musculoskeletal disorders and their early indications, why addressing early signs before serious injury develops is worthwhile, and how to report work-related injuries and illnesses under the recordkeeping rule.

Study aid, not site-specific safety advice. The official rule controls.

Answer A comes from
