Wind chill

Used on the ASP and CHST. The worked example below is computed by code and checked against the source.

WC = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275T × V^0.16

T = air temperature in °F; V = wind speed in mph.

Worked example

T = 20°F, V = 15 mph.

35.74 + 12.43 − 55.14 + 13.19 = 6°F

The formula comes from

NOAA/National Weather Service: Wind Chill calculation(opens weather.gov in a new tab)
“WindChill = 35.74 + (0.6215 × T) − (35.75 × Wind sfc^0.16) + (0.4275 × T × Wind sfc^0.16) [T in °F, wind speed in mph]”

Questions

What is the formula for wind chill?
WC = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275T × V^0.16. T = air temperature in °F; V = wind speed in mph.
Will this formula be given on the BCSP exam?
BCSP says the formula is included in the question whenever one is needed, unless the question is testing whether you know the formula. You can't bring a formula sheet into the exam, so learn what each formula does and when to use it.

BCSP, What to Expect When Sitting for a BCSP Exam (item 7)(opens bcsp.org in a new tab)
“For any question requiring a mathematical formula, the formula will be included within the exam question (unless the question is specifically testing your knowledge of a formula). You will not be provided or permitted to bring a formula sheet.”
