Question 1

A technician audits a jobsite's emergency action plan. The site has one employee alarm system. When the on-site fire brigade is called out, a supervisor sounds a continuous horn blast. When all employees must evacuate, the supervisor sounds the same continuous horn blast. Training records show every worker was told that the horn means 'report to the muster point.' Which finding is correct?

Show answer and source

Answer: C. Noncompliant, because a distinctive signal must be used for each purpose the alarm system serves

The same alarm system serves two purposes (alerting fire brigade members and evacuation), so the standard requires a distinctive signal for each. Training workers on one shared signal does not satisfy this, and the standard calls for distinct signals, not separate systems.

Answer C rests on

Question 2

A contractor's draft emergency action plan for a building renovation assigns escape routes by floor, names the employees trained for rescue and medical duties, tells workers to report fires by calling the site emergency number, and lists the safety manager's job title for questions about the plan. During a drill, no one could say whether a two-person drywall crew had made it out. Which minimum plan element is missing and should be added to fix this gap?

Show answer and source

Answer: B. Procedures to account for all employees after emergency evacuation has been completed

The draft already covers escape routes, rescue and medical duties, reporting means, and a contact person. The drill failure shows it lacks procedures to account for all employees after evacuation. Re-entry to search is not a listed element, and the standard does not require extinguisher maps or insurer lists in the plan.

Answer B rests on
