HazCom 2024: new compliance dates

OSHA's 2024 update aligns the Hazard Communication Standard with GHS Revision 7. It took effect July 19, 2024. In January 2026 OSHA moved every compliance date back four months: May 19, 2026 for substances and November 19, 2027 for mixtures.

Not yet: the exam still tests the prior rule

BCSP's references predate the 2024 update. The core the exam tests (six label elements, pictograms, the 16-section SDS) didn't change; the new details aren't tested yet.

Judged against ASP11, CSP11 and CHST5, the outlines in effect on October 16, 2026.

Until each compliance date, OSHA says manufacturers, importers, distributors and employers may follow the 2012 standard, the 2024 standard, or both.

For the exam

Study the structure that has been stable since 2012: hazard classification, the six required label elements, pictograms, the 16-section SDS, and employee training. Those are what our hazard communication questions cite from 29 CFR 1910.1200.
