CSP Domain 3: Risk Management
BCSP's CSP11 Examination Blueprint, V.2024.04.24 weights Risk Management at 15% of the CSP, a 5.5-hour exam. Give it study time in proportion to its weight.

A PHA team issues several recommendations for a covered process. The plant manager wants to handle them informally: verbal agreements with supervisors, no written record, to avoid paperwork. Which part of the standard does this approach violate?
Show answer and source
Answer: B. The requirement that recommendations be resolved in a timely manner and that the resolution be documented
The standard requires a system to assure recommendations are resolved timely and the resolution documented, along with documenting actions and a written completion schedule. It does not require every recommendation be implemented verbatim, agency approval, or limit tracking to catastrophic items.
“The employer shall establish a system to promptly address the team's findings and recommendations; assure that the recommendations are resolved in a timely manner and that the resolution is documented; document what actions are to be taken; complete actions as soon as possible; develop a written schedule of when these actions are to be completed; communicate the actions to operating, maintenance and other employees whose work assignments are in the process and who may be affected by the recommendations or actions.”
A plating shop supervisor plans to use air-purifying respirators with organic vapor cartridges for workers exposed to a solvent vapor. The cartridges have no NIOSH-certified end-of-service-life indicator that suits the shop's conditions. What must the employer do to make this selection compliant?
Show answer and source
Answer: D. Implement a cartridge change schedule based on objective information or data, and describe that information and its basis in the respirator program
When no appropriate ESLI exists, the standard requires a change schedule built on objective information or data that ensures cartridges are changed before the end of their service life, and the program must document that basis. Worker discretion and particulate filters do not meet this requirement.
“If there is no ESLI appropriate for conditions in the employer's workplace, the employer implements a change schedule for canisters and cartridges that is based on objective information or data that will ensure that canisters and cartridges are changed before the end of their service life. The employer shall describe in the respirator program the information and data relied upon and the basis for the canister and cartridge change schedule and the basis for reliance on the data.”
A phlebotomist finishes a draw and removes her gloves. She has no visible contamination on her hands, and she plans to start the next patient's paperwork right away and wash up later at the end of her shift. What does the standard require?
Show answer and source
Answer: A. Wash hands immediately or as soon as feasible after removing gloves or other PPE
The standard requires handwashing immediately or as soon as feasible after removing gloves or other PPE, whether or not contamination is visible. Delaying until the end of the shift or relying on visible blood does not meet this requirement.
“Employers shall ensure that employees wash their hands immediately or as soon as feasible after removal of gloves or other personal protective equipment.”
